Rooms 9 and 7 were lucky enough to have an expert helping them learn how to ice skate during their recent ice skating trip to Tekapo. Ben Oxley-Marshall has only been ice skating for a couple of seasons but obviously his prior roller blading experience has helped him, as he has become a very proficient skater. Ben assisted the young students with the basics such as learning how to lace up their boots and get on their feet. For some of the more advanced skaters, he was able to show them how to do a hockey stop. Ben also demonstrated to the classes some of his figure skating ability and some speed skating.
Ben has competed in four ice hockey tournaments and one figure skating event. He is currently playing ice hockey for Mackenzie College and trains three times a week. The training is paying off as the team has won two tournaments. In the third term holidays, Ben will be going to Dunedin with the Mackenzie College team for the South Island Championships.
We wish Ben all the best for his upcoming tournament and thank him for helping our young budding skaters get on their feet.
