Twizel Area School has excellent buildings, grounds and facilities which are the envy of
many schools in New Zealand. The recent development project has seen the improvement of the school into a comfortable, modern, and attractive learning environment. There are the full range of specialist rooms which one would expect to find in a much larger school.
Specialist rooms include:
a science laboratory, workshop, a new music suite, home economics and clothing and textiles room, computer suite and art complex. The school also has a comprehensive and attractive library which is also the Community Library.
The school is part of NetNZ and has rooms where E-Learning can take place via audio-graphics. They contain computers, a scanner and camera so that lessons can be received from (and delivered to) other New Zealand Schools using the latest in technology.
The school has a fibre connection to the internet and in 2016 the wireless infrastructure was upgraded so that specialist rooms are less essential. A capable laptop and Google Hangouts enable learners to easily communicate with teachers and others in their communities anywhere.
The school also owns a wonderful Outdoor Education facility – Huxley Lodge. There is a large two storey solid log building, and two log bunk rooms providing sleeping for 28, set in an idyllic location at the head of Lake Ohau. It provides the base for our Outdoor Education programme for Years 7-10.
Another feature of the school is the extensive and attractive grounds with a full range of facilities. There are rugby, soccer, cricket and softball fields, and an athletics track. The community swimming pool is next door along with tennis and netball courts. The school makes extensive use of the Twizel Events Centre 100m away.
A combination of excellent facilities, professional and supportive teachers and a safe and healthy environment give Twizel Area School students a privileged educational opportunity.
